We are so fortunate to have the protection of our Armed Forces. And not just the soldiers, sailors and air personnel who ensure our national security, but all the veterans who have fought in past wars and undertaken tours of duty – we should be grateful to them all. But it’s all too often the case that the Armed Forces can be forgotten when they try and integrate back into every day society. They need specific advice to help to build lives back on ‘civvy street’.

This includes specialist financial advice aimed at addressing the particular demands and requirements that armed forces personnel have. For example, there are certain issues related to the Armed Forces Pension Scheme and the reduction of the Lifetime Allowance. Ex-forces retirees need to speak to someone with specialist knowledge of these complex problems.

At Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management we are 100% committed to supporting the Armed Forces, their veterans and the charities that work with them and, as a specialist wealth manager, we do this best by helping both serving and former personnel with their particular financial requirements. We are well-placed to do this because we have a team of investment managers who have left the Armed Forces and now work at Canaccord Genuity Wealth Management. As well as being wealth management specialists, because they were in the forces, they understand the circumstances service personnel find themselves in.

We also have a lot of experience in advising military charities, which have faced a number of complex governance issues and questions over their charitable status in the wake of changes introduced in the Charities Act. Often, serving or ex military personnel are taken on as trustees of military charities and we provide those personnel with governance reviews and training to help them fulfil their trustee roles more effectively.

As recognition of all this support, we are proud to have recently been awarded the Defence Employee Recognition Scheme Bronze Award. The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) was established to reward and recognise UK companies for their support and commitment towards defence and armed forces personnel, and to inspire other organisations to do the same. The scheme encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for companies that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant.

As the first pure play wealth management firm in the City to receive the award, we are delighted to get this accolade, as it highlights our commitment to Armed Forces personnel and their families. As a Bronze Award holder we have pledged our intention to support defence, and take a positive stance towards existing or prospective employees who are members of the Armed Forces community and the charities that support them.

Investment involves risk. The value of investments and the income from them can go down as well as up and you may not get back the amount originally invested.
